Baxi boilers: combi, system and heat-only models

Baxi sells combi, system, heat-only and electric boilers for UK homes, manufactured in the UK and stocked through plumbing and builders' merchants nationwide¹. The range is built to cover domestic gas, LPG and electrical heating installations, with models and outputs chosen to suit the installation rather than a single house type².

The warranty headline is up to 10 years, but it is conditional. Baxi states all its warranties require the boiler to have a yearly service, and a boiler not registered within 30 days of installation defaults to a standard two years³. The 10-year term on the 800 range depends on a magnetic filter being fitted and maintained for the length of the warranty⁴.

On running costs, Baxi's own guidance is that ramping the temperature to maximum could decrease efficiency by up to 20%, and that a condensing boiler should be set no lower than 65°C⁵. Independent guidance points lower, with the Energy Saving Trust and Smart Energy GB both naming around 55 to 60°C as the point at which a combi runs in condensing mode⁶.

The manufacturing base is British. Independent guidance states that both Baxi heating boilers and Glow Worm boilers are British-made, and Baxi's own product pages carry the line "Manufactured in the UK"¹. The 400 Combi 2.1 is produced on site at Baxi's Preston factory, which is the clearest published statement of where a current model is built⁹.

Distribution matters more than it first appears for a household weighing independence. Baxi boilers are available nationwide and installed by a trusted network of installers, and the merchant stockist model means parts and replacement units move through the same trade channels that installers already use¹³. Baxi's after-sales operation supports a large installed base of residential and commercial heating products across the UK, with spare parts sourced from over 200 suppliers¹⁴. That breadth is a practical advantage over a brand with a thin UK parts chain, though it does not remove the dependence on a gas supply, a gas supplier and a Gas Safe registered engineer for anything beyond routine user tasks.

Combi, system, heat-only or electric: which Baxi boiler fits which home

Baxi's four domestic families map onto the standard UK boiler types. The combi range is available in a variety of outputs to suit the installation requirements, and the heat-only range is likewise offered in a variety of outputs¹⁵. The electric range is available in a variety of outputs, and Baxi describes those units as super easy to install¹⁷. Heat-only models are described as super easy to install and compact¹⁶.

The heat-only range carries a compatibility point that matters for anyone with an existing cylinder: Baxi states its heat-only boilers are compatible with its own Baxi cylinders and the Megaflo Eco range¹⁶. That makes a heat-only replacement a like-for-like proposition in a home that already has a cylinder and tank, rather than a system redesign.

Warranty: up to 10 years, with annual servicing and clean water as conditions

Baxi states it offers up to 10 years on its boilers, and the terms behind that figure are worth reading as a set of conditions rather than a single promise¹⁰. The boiler warranty covers the boiler and integrated controls, and parts and labour costs are included, along with cover should the boiler break as a result of a manufacturing fault¹⁹.

Three conditions govern whether the longest term survives. First, registration: a boiler warranty not registered within 30 days of installation defaults to the standard two years⁴. Second, servicing: Baxi states that all its warranties have a requirement that the boiler has a yearly service, and repeats the point across its servicing pages²⁰. Third, on the 800 range, a magnetic filter must be fitted and maintained for the length of the boiler warranty for the 10-year warranty to remain valid⁴.

Registration runs online or through the warranty registration phoneline on 0800 013 7989, and requires the boiler's serial number plus the address and postcode of where it is installed⁴. If the boiler is already registered, the online form will say so⁴. On a new build, either the contractor, developer or first occupier may register the boiler, depending on what has been agreed on the contract⁴. What a Baxi boiler costs fitted, and how the price compares with Worcester Bosch

Baxi publishes no list price for a supplied-and-fitted boiler, so prices are installer-quoted after a survey. The comparison figure that exists is for a different brand: independent guidance on Worcester Bosch states that as well as the cost of the appliance, installation costs may be up to £2,000²⁴. That is an installation-cost figure, not a total, and it is dated 2024.

The published documents disagree on Worcester Bosch totals. Two distributor figures for a Worcester Bosch combi installation, £1,300 to £3,000 and £1,500 to £3,500, are both dated March 2026 and neither has been ruled the correct one, so both stand as reported ranges²⁴. No equivalent published total exists for a Baxi installation.

What drives a Baxi quote is the same set of variables that drives any boiler quote: the family and output chosen, whether the system type is changing, and flue or siting work. The heat-only range's compatibility with Baxi cylinders and Megaflo Eco matters here, because a like-for-like heat-only replacement avoids the extra labour of converting to a combi¹⁶. For a household, the practical position is that a Baxi boiler is bought through an installer, not off a shelf, and the merchant stockist model means the unit itself is widely available even where a particular installer is not¹. Efficiency and flow temperature: why running at maximum can cost up to 20%

Baxi's own guidance is blunt about the cost of a hot boiler: ramping the temperature to maximum could decrease efficiency by up to 20%⁵. The mechanism is condensing. A condensing boiler recovers heat from flue gases only when the return water is cool enough, so the flow temperature set at the boiler determines whether the appliance is condensing or merely burning gas.

Baxi's stated minimum is 65°C, and it gives a safety reason: the setting should be no lower than 65°C so bacteria in the water do not grow and cause things like Legionella⁵. That is a hot water storage concern, and it is the reason Baxi's floor sits where it does.

Independent guidance runs lower for the heating circuit. Smart Energy GB states combi boilers are most efficient when the boiler flow temperature is around 55 to 60°C, as this sets the boiler into condensing mode⁶. The Energy Saving Trust states boilers are more efficient when the return temperature is low, and that this can save both energy and money⁷. The Low Carbon Hub gives around 55 to 60°C as the point at which efficiency improves, provided radiators are sized to deliver the heat at that temperature²⁵. One independent tip puts the improvement from turning a boiler's flow temperature down to 60 degrees at around 4%²⁶.

The figures differ, and the difference is one of purpose rather than fact: Baxi's 65°C floor protects stored hot water, while the independent figures describe the heating circuit. Living with a Baxi boiler: pressure, condensate pipes and winter care

Baxi states the water pressure inside the boiler should be between 1 and 2 bar¹². Where it needs topping up, Baxi publishes a repressurisation guide, and notes that a Gas Safe registered engineer or Baxi Customer Support can help if the householder prefers not to do it or cannot manage¹². Condensate pipes are the winter weak point. Baxi states condensate pipes can freeze due to extremely low temperatures or ice building up on the pipe, which needs clearing for the boiler to function effectively². The remedy Baxi gives is to warm the condensate pipe across its exposed length using a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack or warm water poured from a watering can²⁷. Northern Gas Networks gives the same method, holding a hot water bottle or heat wrap around the pipe²⁸. If the boiler still does not fire up, the advice is to contact your gas supplier if you have home or boiler care cover, or a Gas Safe registered engineer²⁹.

Prevention is a matter of pipe routing and insulation. Baxi advises lagging the pipe with waterproof and weatherproof lagging, and states that insulating the pipe can prevent freezing caused by extremely low temperatures or ice build-up¹². Longer-term remedies include moving the pipe so it runs internally, fitting a wider pipe, lagging it, installing a trace heater along the pipe, or a combination of these²⁷.

Servicing is the other half of living with the boiler. Baxi states a service could take between 40 and 60 minutes on average, depending on how old the boiler is and when it was last serviced²⁰. The checks include correct gas pressure and flow, flue and combustion, the condition of electrical connections, fans and other key components, seals, electrodes, safety devices, the condensate trap and pipe, and water and gas pipework, with options for maintaining cylinders and filters also available²². Baxi's boilers also carry safety features including a pressure relief valve, an integral expansion vessel, a pre-heated and siphonic condensate trap design, pump overrun to dissipate excess heat from the heat exchanger once demand has stopped, and a 24 hour pump cycle to prevent components seizing¹⁸.

Baxi's move beyond gas boilers: heat pumps, hydrogen-ready models and controls

Baxi's servicing scope already extends past gas boilers: it offers servicing for boilers, filters, cylinders, air source heat pumps and more¹⁰. That is the clearest signal that the installed base is expected to include non-gas heat sources.

The controls side has moved too. Baxi launched a new range of wireless heating controls in May 2026, led by the AmbiZen Smart Control, compatible with its air source heat pumps, boilers and cylinders¹⁴. On heat pumps, Baxi published guidance in March 2026 comparing boilers and air source heat pumps on efficiency, costs, suitability and hybrid operation¹⁴. Baxi and Travis Perkins won the Best Sustainability Innovation award at the Housing Innovation Awards 2026 for the WholeHouse range of renewable heating solutions¹⁴. Baxi also runs a cashback promotion on its HP40 and HP60 air source heat pumps, worth £500 per installation, where qualifying units are installed, commissioned and registered on Baxi Works with a valid MCS Installation Certificate by 31 December 2026¹⁴.

The floor-standing range has been consolidated under the Baxi brand: in July 2026 Baxi relaunched the Remeha Gas 210 Ace as the Baxi Gas 210 Ace, the first floor-standing boiler to transition to the Baxi brand¹⁴. The company behind the boilers: ownership, support and reputation

Baxi's after-sales operation supports a large installed base of residential and commercial heating products across the UK, with spare parts sourced from over 200 suppliers¹⁴. In July 2026 Baxi appointed Ethan Thompson as Head of Spares, leading an operation covering supply chain, logistics, product portfolio management and genuine-parts sales¹⁴. That is a company investing in the parts side of the business, which is the part that determines whether a 12-year-old boiler can be repaired.

Support access runs through two routes. Baxi states that for a boiler fault you can either call the heating engineer who installed it or contact Baxi Customer Support to arrange for one of its engineers to visit³. Baxi Customer Support describes itself as providing support for the lifetime of your boiler³¹. The service booking line for customers without a maintenance and support plan is 0330 828 0709²⁷, and the warranty registration phoneline is 0800 013 7989⁴.

Baxi Repair and Care covers boilers out of guarantee, with a one-off repair or an annual plan. Where a boiler is beyond economical repair, Baxi states you will receive a replacement boiler up to the value of £750²⁴. For boilers over 15 years old, Baxi directs householders to call its contact centre on 0330 678 0133 to discuss the best option²⁴. That age threshold is worth noting: it sits at the top of the 10 to 15 year lifespan Baxi quotes, and it means the oldest boilers fall outside the standard repair route¹¹.

For a household weighing energy independence, the position is clear. A Baxi gas boiler keeps a home on the gas grid and on a gas supplier, with an electrical dependence for ignition, controls and pumping, and a Gas Safe registered engineer for anything beyond repressurising and thawing a condensate pipe.
