Why it exists
Advice on home energy is spread across government sites, regulators, makers, installers and comparison sites, and much of it is selling something. We bring the facts together in plain English so you can make your own decision about your own home.
Who pays for it
No maker, supplier or installer pays to appear here or to be written about, and none has any say over what we write.
Where the facts come from
Every figure and claim is cited to its source, and we put official and independent sources first: government departments, Ofgem and the other regulators, consumer bodies such as Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust, and makers' own datasheets for product details. The sources for each page are listed at the end of it.
How the pages are made
Pages are researched from those sources. Before a page is published, automated checks test what it says against its sources and turn back anything they cannot support. We keep the stored copy of every source a page cites, so each claim can be traced.
