The gap between the headline and real-world performance is not a dispute about the badge. A condensing boiler recovers heat from flue gases only when the return water is cool enough, which depends on flow temperature and radiator sizing rather than on the model. Efficiency also interacts with the guarantee. Worcester Bosch states that its boilers come with a full parts and labour guarantee including a 10 year guarantee on the primary heat exchanger². Servicing is not optional. Worcester Bosch states that yearly servicing is a condition of its manufacturer guarantee and must be completed each year to keep the guarantee validated⁵. Independent guidance puts installation costs at up to £2,000 on top of the appliance, and cites Checkatrade for a new boiler at around £1,500 on average⁸. Those two independent figures describe different things: the £1,500 is a general market average across brands, the £2,000 is the installation labour and ancillary cost a householder should budget for separately.

One distributor comparison puts Worcester Bosch combi boiler installation at £1,300 to £3,000, another at £1,500 to £3,500, and the two are not reconciled²⁵. Read together with the maker's own £2,500 to £3,700 band, the honest position is that a fitted Worcester Bosch boiler is installer-quoted, and the published ranges overlap rather than agree.

These are favourable indicators rather than a guarantee of individual performance. The Which? endorsement is a brand-level judgement across a range, not a prediction for one house. Installation quality, system cleanliness and annual servicing shape lifespan more than the badge does, and the servicing requirement is also what keeps the guarantee alive⁵.

The repair side has published performance figures. On hybrids, independent guidance states that hybrid heat pumps can be upgraded easily to a range of future low or carbon-free heating options, listing an all-electric heat pump, an electric-hydrogen hybrid heat pump, an electric-biofuel hybrid heat pump, and an electric heat pump with instantaneous electric²⁷. The same guidance notes that oil and LPG boilers can also be used in hybrid arrangements²⁷. Some codes are explained directly. Worcester Bosch states that when the EA229 fault code is displayed, it means the condensate pipe in the boiler is blocked⁷. Its winter guidance links a frozen condensate pipe to an EA error code on a boiler with a digital display³³. Thawing frozen condensate pipes is listed among the self maintenance tasks not covered by the manufacturer guarantee⁵.

The SE code is not a fault. Worcester Bosch states it is a function displayed when the boiler has run for 2,324 hours, which it describes as average for a 12 month period³⁴. A low burn lasting about 15 minutes after the boiler has been off is siphon fill mode: the boiler runs at a low burn for about 15 minutes to fill the condense trap, and the maker states this happens after the boiler has been turned off, if it has not been used for a day or so, and if the control knob has been turned down and back up³⁴. Air purge mode is different again: the boiler will not fire, but will pulse the pump on and off³⁴.

A separate behaviour is flow temperature rate limitation. The boiler is programmed to increase its flow temperature by a certain number of degrees per minute, and if it exceeds that rate the burner stops for two minutes and restarts afterwards³⁴. Maximum and minimum mode should not last longer than 15 minutes each³⁴.
