Wiser is Drayton's smart heating range, built around a Wiser Home Hub and a Smart Room Thermostat, with Multi-room Kits and Smart Radiator Thermostats adding room-by-room control¹. The 2nd Generation system extends beyond heating into smart home products, while the 1st Generation system supports heating control only¹. A 2nd Generation Radiator Thermostat launched on 27 August 2026, expanding the range further³.

The system scales to 16 rooms and 63 Wiser devices, and every core kit ships with a HubR and Smart Room Thermostat as standard⁴. There is no subscription fee, the published warranty is 3 years, and kits are described as Boiler Plus compliant⁴. Prices are shown as sale prices on individual products rather than as a full installed cost.

For a household, Wiser is a control layer rather than a fuel change. It sits on an existing gas, oil or heat pump system, adds per-room zoning and app scheduling, and leaves the home on the same boiler, the same fuel and the same broadband connection. What Wiser is, and what the 2nd Generation changed

Drayton splits its Wiser range into two generations. The 1st Generation system supports heating control; the 2nd Generation system includes smart home products as well as smart heating control¹. The 2nd Generation Radiator Thermostat launched on 27 August 2026, described as new and improved and expanding the 2nd Generation range³. The radiator thermostat is compatible with the Wiser 1st Generation HubR, so a household with an older hub is not automatically locked out of the newer valves¹.

What the range covers: thermostats, valves, sensors and kits

The Multi-zone Kit 1 pairs two radiator thermostats with a hub and room thermostat to start zoning a system¹¹. The 1 Channel 2nd Generation Multi-room Smart Home Kit includes a 1 channel HubR, 1 Room Thermostat and 2 Smart Radiator Thermostats¹². The 3 Channel Smart Room & Radiator Thermostat Kit includes a 3 channel HubR, 1 Temperature & Humidity Sensor, 1 Room Thermostat and 2 Smart Radiator Thermostats¹³.

Add-ons extend the system further: additional smart radiator thermostats, smart plugs, electrical heat switches, a smart underfloor heating controller, smart sensors and micro modules⁷. The radiator thermostat itself is compatible with around 95% of UK thermostatic radiator valves, so most existing valve bodies can take the new head without a plumber changing the valve³.

System capacity: 16 rooms, 63 devices, zoning per room

The published ceiling is consistent across the range: control up to 16 rooms using up to 63 Wiser devices per system⁴. The same figures appear on the 1 channel room thermostat kit, the 2 channel room and radiator kit, the non-relay hub bundle, the 3 channel sensor kit and the electrical heat switch⁹.

Channel count and room count are separate things. Thermostat Kit 1 is described as 1 channel, 16 rooms, 63 devices¹³. The channels govern how many heating zones and hot water circuits the hub can switch directly; the room count governs how many separate temperature zones the wireless devices can create. Thermostat Kit 3 provides smart control of 2 heating zones and hot water via relay switching¹⁵.

In practice, zoning per room is what changes behaviour. A smart radiator thermostat on each radiator lets a household set different temperatures in different rooms on a schedule, rather than heating the whole house to one figure. That is the mechanism behind the savings claim, and it is also the reason the system's value depends on how many rooms are actually zoned. Compatibility: boilers, heat pumps and underfloor heating

Wiser kits are designed to sit on several system types. Thermostat Kit 1 provides smart control of heating for combi boilers either via OpenTherm or relay switching, and can also interface with heat pumps to control heating according to heat demand¹³. Thermostat Kit 3 is suitable for system boilers¹⁵.

The broader compatibility statement covers electric or water-based underfloor heating, combi or conventional boilers, and radiators or towel rails¹⁸. The Wiser Underfloor Heating Controller enables app control of water-based underfloor heating and is aimed at mixed heating systems¹⁹. The Electrical Heat Switch provides smart control of electric heaters and electric underfloor heating through the Wiser Home app¹⁷.

For electric underfloor heating specifically, the Electrical Heat Switch can control it with the Wiser Remote Floor Sensor and a Wiser Room Thermostat, with the sensor used in addition to the thermostat to protect the floor from overheating²⁰. The Electrical Heat Switch Underfloor Heating Kit is compatible with any Wiser system²¹.

Heat pump support is stated at kit level rather than as a universal claim. The 1 Channel Temperature and Humidity Sensor and Radiator Thermostat Kit interfaces with heat pumps via On/Off controls¹⁰. That is a different relationship from a heat pump's own manufacturer controls: the Panasonic Aquarea M-series is listed as compatible with Panasonic Comfort Cloud and Aquarea Service Cloud for remote monitoring, diagnostics and weather compensation²². The savings claim: up to 30%, and what sits behind it

Wiser states a saving of up to 30% on heating bills per year, and the same figure appears across the product pages, the kit collections and the savings page¹⁰. The savings page frames it as research indicating a household could save up to 30% on annual energy bills by upgrading to Wiser²⁴.

The basis is stated: the smart thermostat percentage savings are based on BEAMA and Salford university research statistics from 2021²⁴. That is a manufacturer's claim resting on named research, not an independently verified figure for any individual home. The 30% is a ceiling, not a prediction.

A separate figure sits alongside it. Wiser states that app control of heating from anywhere can save an extra 5% energy²⁴. That is a second manufacturer claim, and it is additive in the marketing rather than in the modelling.

What actually drives savings in a zoned system is the combination of per-room scheduling, setback when rooms are unused, and the smart modes that learn how long a home takes to warm up and cool down. The claim is plausible in a house with several unused rooms and poor existing control, and much weaker in a small flat already running a modern programmer and TRVs. Smart modes, app control and energy insights

The app is called Wiser Home, and it is the control surface for the whole system⁴. The room thermostat and radiator thermostats are controlled through it, and the same app name appears across the kits and bundles¹¹.

This is where the dependence sits. Scheduling, Smart Modes, energy insights and remote control all run through the hub, a home broadband connection and Drayton's app. Local control at the thermostat and radiator valves continues without the internet, but the features that justify the smart label do not. Installation: a direct replacement for miGenie Wish 1 and 2

Wiser is a direct replacement for miGenie Wish 1 and 2, so there is no need for re-wiring²⁶. Drayton maps the old models to specific kits: Wish 1 replaces with Wiser Thermostat Kit 1, and Wish 2 replaces with Wiser Thermostat Kit 2²⁷.

The wiring position differs by component. On Thermostat Kit 1, the HubR requires fixed wiring only, to comply with current IET regulations (BS7671), while the room thermostat requires no wiring¹³. The Multi-zone Kit 2 states no wiring required for the room and radiator thermostat¹⁶. The 2nd Generation room thermostat is listed as no wiring required¹⁴.

Kits are described as installable by a complete DIYer in most situations, with each kit coming with a Wiser Home HubR and Smart Room Thermostat as standard¹⁸. Warranty, subscription and cost

The published warranty is a 3 year warranty, described as an extended 3 year warranty on some kits and on the electrical heat switch⁴. The product pages do not set out a longer paid extension or a registered-installer upgrade in the terms given, so the 3 year term is the figure to work from.

There is no subscription fee. That line appears on the smart room thermostat, the 1 channel sensor and radiator thermostat kit and the 1 channel room thermostat kit⁴. App control, scheduling and Smart Modes are included with the hardware rather than charged monthly.

On price, the Wiser Smart Room Thermostat is listed at a sale price of £105.00⁴. Households should treat the shop prices as component prices and expect a separate figure for any wiring work at the hub.

The comparison point for subscription models is worth noting. Official guidance on the Heat Pump Ready programme describes a Passiv Smart Thermostat project with no service fee, and an ECO4 innovation measure listing describes an Ariston Thermo Nimbus with a 10-year annual service plan at no cost to the end-user²⁸. Where Wiser sits for a household's independence

Wiser changes how a home's heating is controlled, not where the energy comes from. A household running Wiser on a gas boiler remains on the gas grid and on a gas supplier, with the boiler, the fuel and the standing charge unchanged. The system adds electrical dependence for the hub, the thermostats and the radiator valves, and it adds a broadband and app dependence for scheduling, Smart Modes and remote access.

What it does offer is finer local control. Per-room zoning, setback in unused rooms and schedules that reflect actual occupancy reduce waste without changing the fuel. The 16 room and 63 device ceiling means the system can grow with a house rather than being replaced, and the 3 year warranty and no-subscription position keep the running cost predictable.

The limits are worth stating as firmly as the benefits. The 30% saving is a manufacturer claim from 2021 research, not a guarantee. The longest published warranty is 3 years, with no installer-linked extension set out in the terms given. Heat pump support is On/Off interfacing at kit level, which is not the same as native modulation control. And the smart features depend on a cloud service and an app that the household does not control.
