What the Vitocal range is and which models are sold in the UK

Vitocal is Viessmann's heat pump family, sitting alongside the Vitodens gas condensing boiler range, the Vitocell water heater range and the Vitoplex range in the company's product naming⁴. The Vitocal range itself is not limited to heating: Viessmann states that it can also be used for cooling and to supply a building with hot water¹.

The range splits by heat source. Viessmann describes it as a gateway to the fully electrified home, and it was signed off in late 2025 after UK installer input over the preceding few years². Vitocal 150-A and Vitocal 200-A ie: the current line-up

The Vitocal 150-A is the model most often quoted in UK modernisation work. Viessmann lists it with a flow temperature of up to 70 degrees C and states it was specially developed for modernisation projects¹. The Vitocal 150-A Compact adds an integral domestic hot water cylinder, which removes the need for a separate cylinder in the airing cupboard⁶. The Vitocal 150-A Hybrid pairs the heat pump with an integrated energy management system, and is designed to work alongside an existing boiler⁷.

The Vitocal 200-A ie is the newest and the highest temperature of the air source models, listed at up to 75 degrees C². Viessmann lists it for new buildings and modernisation, with automatic software upgrades available⁵. It is an air-to-water heat pump, and warranty registration runs through the VPlus platform⁵.

Two of the air source models, the Vitocal 200-A and the Vitocal 222-A, are equipped with circuit reversal for active cooling, so the same unit can cool a home in summer¹. That is a genuine independence gain in a warming climate, though it adds to electricity use in the cooling season.

Why Viessmann's heat pump heritage matters

Viessmann states that it introduced its first heat pump in 1981, and describes the period since as over 45 years of German engineering². Elsewhere the company says it has been making heat pumps since the 1970s, describing itself as a German manufacturer and claiming its machines are the quietest available¹⁶. The two statements are close but not identical, and the 1981 date is the one attached to the current UK press material.

The company has operated in the UK since 1989². That matters for parts and service: a long UK presence means a stocked spares operation and a trained installer base, rather than a brand importing units without local support. Viessmann Climate Solutions UK is an Industrial Associate of CIPHE, the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, and in July 2025 adopted TechSee's remote visual assistance platform to support customers and installers, an integration that the institute reports led to adoption in five further countries¹⁷.

Flow temperatures and radiators: what a Vitocal needs from your home

Flow temperature is the number that decides whether a heat pump works with the radiators already in a house. Viessmann's general guidance is that a heating system with radiators requires temperatures of up to 70 degrees C, while underfloor heating systems manage with around 30 degrees C¹⁵.

The practical point is that a high listed maximum flow temperature does not mean the heat pump will run at that temperature. Viessmann lists several Vitocal models explicitly for modernisation projects rather than new build. The Vitocal 150-A Compact is listed for detached houses and modernisation projects⁸, the Vitocal 151-A for detached houses and modernisation projects¹¹, and the Vitocal 200-A for detached houses, new build and modernisation projects⁹. The ground source models are aimed at larger properties. The Vitocal 222-G is listed for detached houses and new build¹⁰, while the Vitocal 300-G and Vitocal 350-G are listed for apartment buildings, commercial enterprises, local authorities, new build and modernisation projects¹³.

In Scotland, the Building Standards Technical Handbook gives guidance on how to comply with the Building (Scotland) Regulations for domestic buildings¹⁹. A separate section of the 2022 handbook states that the guidance applies to new systems and the replacement, in whole or in part, of existing systems²⁰. Costs, cashback offers and what a Vitocal installation involves

There is no published Viessmann list price for a supplied and fitted Vitocal in the material available, so prices are installer-quoted. What the material does record is promotional activity aimed at installers rather than householders.

Viessmann launched a promotion offering installers a pre-loaded card with £150 for each eligible Vitocal 150-A heat pump installed between 1 October and 31 December 2025². A separate summer cash-back offer for installers registering Viessmann heat pumps or boilers ran from 1 June to 31 August 2025¹⁷. Both windows have closed, and no current offer is stated.

The installation route runs through a Viessmann trained installer. On the boiler side of the business, Viessmann's quote service passes the customer's details to a certified specialist installer for consultation, and the householder receives a free consultation and quotation from a local Viessmann trained installer²¹. Servicing is priced separately. Viessmann lists a manufacturer's service or annual maintenance at £186.00 for the Vitodens 200-W and 222-W up to 35kW²². That figure is for those boilers, not for a Vitocal, and no equivalent heat pump service price is stated.

Warranty, servicing and the ViCare app

Viessmann states that all its heat pumps come with a standard warranty of two years, which can be extended if the unit is installed by a registered Viessmann installer³. The individual model pages repeat the two year term: the Vitocal 150-A Compact, the Vitocal 150-A Hybrid and the Vitocal 200-A ie are each listed with a two year standard warranty registered through the VPlus platform⁵. Cylinders supplied with the range carry a 25 year cylinder warranty and a 2 year parts warranty¹.

The warranty has conditions attached. Viessmann states that product owners must ensure the appropriate warranty registration is completed and their product is serviced annually to qualify for the second, third and later years of warranty, where required²³. Servicing must be carried out by a competent installer or servicing company, such as a Gas Safe registered one²³. The Energy Saving Trust notes independently that an annual service is often a condition of a heat pump warranty¹⁹.

Viessmann in the UK: reputation, installers and parts

Independent assessment of Viessmann in the UK is mixed and worth reading carefully. Which? reports that 80 per cent of Viessmann owners report satisfaction with their boiler, which is lower than the average satisfaction rate of 82 per cent, and that the brand gets a three-star rating for its customer score²⁶. The same review records that 81 per cent of Viessmann customers were likely to recommend the brand to someone else²⁶. Those figures relate to boilers rather than heat pumps, and they are survey-based.
