Navien is a South Korean manufacturer that entered the UK market in 2014 and describes itself as the fourth largest global boiler manufacturer, with over 45 years of design and manufacturing behind it and products serviced in more than 30 countries1. Its UK range now covers gas combi boilers, a gas and LPG system boiler, oil boilers, a heat pump, water heaters and smart controls, sold through merchants rather than direct to households3.
For a household, the appeal is straightforward: a wide model range, warranties quoted at up to 12 years depending on product, and published prices that start well below the installed figures quoted by energy suppliers4. The dependence is the same as any gas appliance: the property stays on the gas grid and on a gas supplier, and the longest cover depends on annual servicing and on the installer relationship being maintained.
Who Navien is, and how it got into UK homes
Navien launched Asia's first condensing gas boiler in 1982 and has been designing and manufacturing central heating and hot water products for over 45 years1. The company now describes itself as the fourth largest global boiler manufacturer, with products serviced in over 30 countries every day1. It entered the UK market in 2014 and has since become an established manufacturer here2.
The UK operation is built around a merchant and installer network rather than a direct-to-householder sales channel. Navien products are available from over 400 merchants nationally, and the company's support function is aimed at three audiences: homeowners, heating engineers and merchants9. That structure matters for a household because it determines how a boiler is bought, who commissions it, and where parts come from.
Manufacturing quality is presented by the maker as a two-stage process. Every boiler leaving the factory is subject to two stages of testing: first, robotics conducting 55 quality checks per second, then a 250-step manual quality check by an operative1. These are the manufacturer's own figures and describe its production line, not the performance of an individual installation.
The UK range has expanded steadily. The NCB500 system boiler was added to a portfolio that already included NCB combi boilers, the PEM750 heat pump, LCB Blue Flame oil boilers, NPE water heaters and AI-powered smart controls3. Navien also runs one-day training sessions for installers and provides an in-house team of technical engineers available on the phone to installers nationwide, alongside a nationwide field engineering presence1.

The UK range: gas combi, system, oil and heat pump

The gas side of the range is built around the NCB family. The NCB300 is a combi available in a 28kW output and is listed as in stock by a merchant, with a built-in natural gas and LPG conversion kit included as standard6. The NCB500 is the system boiler, launched in the UK on 31 July 2025 with a 15kW to 30kW output range, a built-in NG and LPG conversion kit, and a premium stainless steel heat exchanger described as offering superior resistance to corrosion and wear3. It works with existing hot water cylinders and is compatible with the Navien Multikit3.
The oil side is the LCB700 Blue Flame range, sold as internal and external combi and regular models. Navien states that the LCB700 oil boilers are the first in the UK market to offer an A+ energy rating11. The range uses stainless steel heat exchangers for durability and long term efficiency, and the combi models are quoted with flue venting up to 21m in horizontal and vertical arrangements4.
Beyond boilers, Navien offers the PEM750 heat pump and NPE water heaters, and the Smart Plus Controller can be installed in all Navien gas combi boilers, system boilers and oil boilers3.

Warranty: up to 12 years, kept valid by annual servicing
Navien's published warranty position is a maximum rather than a single term. The company states that its warranties run up to 12 years depending on the product, provided installation and servicing requirements are met, and that for some products labour and parts are also covered4. The NCB500 system boiler carries a 10-year warranty as standard3, and the LCB700 Blue Flame combi boilers are quoted with a 10-year parts and labour warranty as standard5. A case study of an LCB700 28kW oil-fired internal boiler installation in a Cambridge bungalow repeats the 10-year parts and labour term15.
The condition attached to all of it is servicing. Navien states plainly that annual servicing keeps the warranty valid, and its servicing guidance says that while a boiler is under warranty an annual service must be booked4. The company frames this as a two-way arrangement: where a boiler is serviced regularly during the warranty period, it is Navien's responsibility to help repair or replace it16.
Registration is the other practical point. Navien's support pages state that where a boiler was not registered at installation, the company does not hold warranty information on record, and the householder is directed back to the boiler installer or to the support line on 0344 332 23 2317. The general rules on registration and transfer are set out in boiler warranties.
Cost: from £567, and what the price covers

There is no single Navien price, because the figures that exist cover different things. A merchant listing for the NCB300 28kW combi shows £567.00 against a stated £680.40, both dated 20 September 20266. Those are appliance prices from a merchant, not installed prices, and the two figures for the same model are not reconciled in the documents.
Installed costs come from elsewhere. E.ON Next quotes from £2,474 for an all-in-one combi boiler installation and from £2,886 for a regular boiler installation including a hot water cylinder and cold water tank, both dated 17 September 202618. Those are the supplier's own starting prices for its installation service and are not Navien-specific.
| Figure | What it covers | Date |
|---|---|---|
| £567.00 | NCB300 28kW combi, merchant listing6 | 20 September 2026 |
| £680.40 | NCB300 28kW combi, merchant listing7 | 20 September 2026 |
| £2,474 | All-in-one combi installation, starting price18 | 17 September 2026 |
| £2,886 | Regular boiler installation with cylinder and tank, starting price18 | 17 September 2026 |
VAT treatment is not stated in any of these figures, so they should be read as quoted rather than as confirmed VAT-inclusive prices. For a household, the gap between the appliance price and the installed price is the labour, flue work, controls, any system conversion and commissioning. Wider cost context sits in new boiler cost.
Specifications and controls: ErP A+ with Smart Plus
Navien boilers can achieve an A+ ErP rating when a smart controller is installed, and the company states that with its Smart Plus controls they can reach ErP A+ (98%) efficiency ratings14. The LCB700 Blue Flame combi is quoted at ErP A (93%) on its own and ErP A+ (98%) with Smart Plus, and carries a three-star domestic hot water performance rating under EN13203-1, with a DHW control range of 30 to 60 degrees C and a default of 50 degrees C4. The same model is quoted at both ErP A (93%) and ErP A+ (98%) on maker pages, and the two figures are not reconciled.
Zoning is a recurring feature. The LCB700 combi models are described as 3-zone ready with a Smart Plus control pack, and the NCB500 system boiler is likewise 3-zone ready with the Smart Plus control pack across all models4. A case study of an oil installation in a Cambridge bungalow notes that the householder chose the LCB700 for its three-zone-ready functionality15.
On third-party controls, Navien states that third-party controls can be used but must be volt free, because the wiring interface is potentially live, and that the NCB range comes OpenTherm ready9. The Smart Plus Controller can be installed in all Navien gas combi boilers, system boilers and oil boilers14. Load compensation, which alters the boiler flow temperature and prevents overheating, is recognised in official guidance as a control measure20. More on control requirements is in heating controls and thermostats and Boiler Plus.
Flue runs: 21m vertical, 20m horizontal, and what bends cost

Flue length is where a Navien installation is either straightforward or not, and the limits differ by model. For the NCB-CE, NCB700, LCB700 and NPE A/S, the maximum vertical equivalent flue length is 21m and the maximum horizontal equivalent length after the first elbow is 20m9. The NCB300 and NCB500 are shorter: 7m horizontal and 8m vertical9. The LCB700 product pages repeat the 21m vertical and 20m horizontal figures for the combi models4.
Bends are counted against the allowance rather than being free. For the NCB-CE, NCB300, NCB500, NCB700 and LCB700, each 87 degree bend uses 1.3m of flue length and each 45 degree bend uses 1.0m9. The NPE A/S is treated differently, at 2.4m for an 87 degree bend and 1.2m for a 45 degree bend9.
| Model group | Max horizontal | Max vertical | 87 degree bend | 45 degree bend |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NCB-CE, NCB700, LCB700, NPE A/S | 20m after first elbow | 21m | 1.3m (2.4m for NPE A/S) | 1.0m (1.2m for NPE A/S) |
| NCB300, NCB500 | 7m | 8m | 1.3m | 1.0m |
Where an 87 degree bend is used in a vertical flue, Navien states that horizontal flue lengths must slope towards the boiler by a minimum of 25 to 30mm per metre9. These are installation constraints rather than householder choices, but they explain why two quotes for the same boiler in different properties can differ sharply. The general rules are covered in boiler flues.
Frost protection, antifreeze and pump overrun
Navien boilers incorporate a built-in frost thermostat that automatically turns on the boiler and pump if the water in the boiler falls below 10 degrees C, provided the electrical supply is on9. That is a boiler-level protection, not a whole-system one, and it depends on the power staying connected.
Antifreeze is tightly specified. For systems requiring freeze protection, Navien states that only inhibited propylene glycol, specially formulated for hydronic heating systems, should be used, and that other antifreeze types will void the warranty9. That is a warranty condition rather than a recommendation.
Pump overrun is a separate behaviour. On a regular boiler with the pump wired into the boiler pump connections, the pump continues to run after the burner has gone out so that heat can be dissipated around the system9. Models in the NCB ON range also incorporate domestic hot water recirculation technology and optional NaviCirc valve integration, which helps keep warm water moving through pipework and reduces heat loss in colder conditions21.
Navien's own winter guidance notes that many modern boilers include built-in frost protection features that monitor temperature and automatically activate components such as pumps or burners at very low temperatures21. The limits of that are worth stating: boiler frost protection does not protect pipework in unheated spaces. Broader cold-weather measures are in boiler servicing and maintenance.
Quality, testing and what ownership means for parts and support

Navien's quality case rests on factory testing and on the support structure behind the product. Every boiler leaving the factory goes through two stages of testing, the first using robotics conducting 55 quality checks per second and the second a 250-step manual check1. The company also offers the Navien Multikit, which allows accurate boiler monitoring and diagnosis based on live data, and describes it as easy to install22.
Support is organised around a 48-hour attendance commitment. Navien states it has a fleet of service agents able to attend to customers in need within 48 hours8. Customer service opening hours, excluding bank holidays, are 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 14:00 Saturday8. For context on what a visit involves, independent guidance puts a gas boiler service at between 30 minutes and two hours, potentially longer depending on the boiler's type, location, age and condition23.
Parts availability runs through the merchant network: Navien products are available from over 400 merchants nationally9. For an unregistered boiler, the company's first instruction is to contact the original installer17.
On lifespan, Navien's own guidance is that UK boilers last 10 to 15 years, and that its warranties run up to 12 years depending on product4. Independent guidance puts the design life of most boilers at around 15 years, with some running to 20, and a system boiler at 10 to 15 years24. The practical point for a household is that the boiler keeps a home on the gas grid and on a gas supplier, with an electrical dependence for ignition, controls and pumping, and that the longest warranty depends on annual servicing being booked and recorded. Where a property is off the gas grid, the alternatives are set out in heating a home off the gas grid and heat pumps compared with boilers.
