SolarEdge has changed the process for extending an inverter warranty. From 1 April 2025, customers who want to extend cover must register for the company's online services and receive a SolarEdge customer number before they can buy the extension1.
The company states the requirement in the same terms on both its global and UK warranty pages:
"SolarEdge customers, as of 1/4/2025, extending your inverter warranty will require registration to our online services."
Registration is made through a link on the warranty page. SolarEdge says the customer number is issued by email once the request has been processed and approved, and that the number is needed before purchasing any SolarEdge service1.
The extension itself is unchanged in outline. SolarEdge says the inverter warranty can be extended to 20 or 25 years depending on the inverter model, that it is bought with a one-time payment fee, and that it must be purchased within 24 months of the inverter being shipped from SolarEdge1. The extension covers the inverter only and does not apply to any built-in communication accessories1. A price list and a warranty status check are published separately1.
| Item | Detail as stated by SolarEdge |
|---|---|
| Registration required from | 1 April 2025 |
| Extension terms available | 20 or 25 years, depending on inverter model |
| Purchase window | Within 24 months of inverter shipment from SolarEdge |
| Payment | One-time fee |
| Scope | Inverter only; excludes built-in communication accessories |
The warranty extension form asks for a customer number, a customer email and an inverter serial number, and allows serial numbers to be imported from a CSV file. SolarEdge states that such a file should contain no more than 10 serial numbers1. The company also describes a rapid RMA process, saying it generally ships a replacement unit within 48 hours if the reported defect is eligible for coverage under the Limited Product Warranty1.
Why it matters for households
An extended inverter warranty is one of the few ways a household can put a fixed, known limit on the cost of a failed inverter years after installation, at a point when the original cover has run out. The change adds an administrative step ahead of that purchase: without a customer number, the extension cannot be bought, and the purchase window is tied to the date the inverter was shipped rather than to any date the household chooses.
The 24-month purchase window is the constraint most likely to matter in practice. A homeowner who only considers extending cover after a fault, or after a change of ownership of the property, may find the window has already closed. Because the extension applies to the inverter and not to built-in communication accessories, a household relying on monitoring hardware should note that a failure there sits outside the extended cover.
Registration also creates a direct record linking the household, or whoever holds the account, to the equipment. That record is what the customer number represents, and it is the reference SolarEdge uses for later service purchases. How registration interacts with installer-held accounts, or with a change of homeowner, has not been reported.
What happens next
The registration requirement applies to warranty extensions from 1 April 2025. SolarEdge has not stated any further dates in the material published on its warranty pages1.
