tado° announced on 4 September 2024 that its tado° X product range will launch in the UK at the beginning of November, describing it as bringing "savings and simplicity to smart heating in the UK from November"1. The same announcement set out UK prices for the full range and named the heat pumps the Heat Pump Optimizer X works with1.
The X range covers a Wireless Smart Thermostat X, a Wired Smart Thermostat X, a Smart Radiator Thermostat X, a Wireless Temperature Sensor X, a Heat Pump Optimizer X and a Bridge X Thread border router1. UK pricing as given by tado° is set out below1.

tado° said the Heat Pump Optimizer X is compatible with Atlantic, Vaillant, Saunier Duval, Fujitsu and Daikin, with Panasonic compatibility due in November and development for other brands continuing1. The company also said the X devices run on Matter over Thread, that the Wireless Smart Thermostat X has a Thread border router built in, and that the Wired Smart Thermostat X requires a Thread border router such as Bridge X or a compatible third party device1. It said X is not compatible with its earlier V3+ devices, which will continue to be sold and supported1.
tado° cited internal data giving average savings of 19 per cent for its UK customers, against 22 per cent for Europe, 25 per cent for Germany and 22 per cent each for Italy, Spain and Belgium1. It also cited a survey of 9,518 tado° customers, including 1,449 in the UK, carried out in April and June 20241. Its Auto-Assist subscription is priced at £3.99 a month or £29.99 a year1.
Separately on the same day, tado° announced PV forecasting for its Balance for Heat Pumps service and its Smart Charging App, which it said predict the amount of electricity a home's solar panels will produce the following day2. It said both services rely on weather forecasts localised to the home's location and on details of the PV system, including peak generation capacity, address, direction and roof tilt, and that it estimates its forecasts are up to 80 per cent accurate2. tado° said about 50 per cent of heat pump owners in Germany and 45 per cent in the UK also have PV systems2. It also said it had agreed a first partnership bundle with Panasonic2.
Why it matters for households
The X range is a controls purchase rather than an energy supply one, so its effect on a home's energy independence runs through how much of a household's heating and hot water is shifted away from the most expensive hours, and how much of a home's own solar generation is used on site rather than exported. The Heat Pump Optimizer X is the part aimed at heat pump owners: tado° says that combined with its Balance for Heat Pumps service and dynamic tariffs it can move a heat pump's operation, for space heating and domestic hot water, to periods when electricity prices are lower each day1. The PV forecasting announcement extends that logic to a home's own generation, scheduling a heat pump or an electric vehicle charge into the hours when the panels are expected to produce2. Where there is no sunshine, tado° says the heat pump or charger reverts to the owner's normal scheduling2.
For homes without a heat pump, the relevant parts are the smart thermostats and TRVs and the room by room control they provide, which is the same choice households face between a smart TRV and a smart thermostat. Two practical points sit alongside the launch. The X range is not compatible with tado°'s earlier V3+ devices, so an existing V3+ installation cannot be extended with X hardware1. And some features, including automated geofencing and open window detection, sit behind the Auto-Assist subscription1, a structure covered in smart thermostat subscriptions and app charges. tado° has not reported how the PV forecasting services are priced in the UK, nor whether the Panasonic bundle will be offered to UK households.
