OVO has combined public charging and its Charge Anytime smart home charging into one app, the OVO Charge app, from 1 September 2025. The company announced the change on 8 September and describes it as a UK first in domestic EV charging convenience: one app for charging at home and on the road1.
The app is built on Kaluza's intelligent energy platform. OVO says customers can manage every aspect of their charging in one place, including households with more than one electric vehicle, which can now manage them all through a single account. Existing savings on public charging through the Boosts feature remain1.
"By combining Charge Anytime into the OVO Charge app, we're simplifying life for EV drivers. We're the first in the UK to offer this all-in-one solution as part of our relentless commitment to make EVs the go to choice for drivers."
OVO also published polling carried out by Strand Partners, a nationally representative online survey of 1,005 people between 08/08/2025 and 11/08/2025, representative by age, gender and NUTS 1 region. It found that 79 per cent of EV drivers say the system needs to be simpler and more user-friendly, 47 per cent say easier public charging would give them more confidence to go electric, 42 per cent want better motorway coverage and 36 per cent want clearer guidance on how and where to charge1.

OVO says it is trusted by around four million customers with home energy, EV charging and green tech upgrades1.
Why it matters for households
For a household with an electric car, charging is usually split between a home charger running on a smart tariff and a set of separate accounts, cards or apps for public charging. Bringing both into one app changes how a home sees and controls its charging, and it means a single account can cover more than one car in the same household1. The cost gap between charging at home and charging on the public network remains a central part of running an EV, and the VAT treatment of public charging is one reason the two are not priced alike. Smart charging that shifts home charging to cheaper periods is the main lever a household has over its own energy independence, and it depends on the app and the charger working together reliably, which is where app connectivity and flexibility schemes come in.
What happens next
Existing Charge Anytime users will be phased onto the new Charge app throughout September and October1. No further dates have been reported.
