GivEnergy has issued a datasheet dated April 2023 for its SME Battery Cabinet, a 64kWh lithium iron phosphate storage unit aimed at small and medium enterprise sites1. The document also covers the accompanying high voltage box and 7.68kWh battery module1.

The cabinet measures 2050mm high, 800mm deep and 600mm wide, and weighs 200kg without batteries1. Each cabinet holds 64kWh of batteries, and GivEnergy states that with the addition of a DC cabinet up to four units can be installed together, offering up to 256kWh of storage1. The company describes the system as "designed for installation in domestic, commercial or industrial applications" and as "an ideal solution for those who need more storage capacity and power, whether at a large home, office or even small industrial environment"1.

"Coupled with our 30, 50 or 100kW PCS the system can provide power to the whole site."

The cabinet includes an emergency stop, an operation user interface and fault lights, a laptop socket for connections, and a built-in UPS for control systems, which the datasheet notes is not required for multiple battery rack systems1. GivEnergy says the built-in bus bar system allows batteries to slide into place without additional DC or data connections1. A 10 year warranty is supplied1.

The supporting hardware is specified separately1:

ItemKey figures
High voltage box134H x 664D x 452W mm; 40kg; nominal voltage 691.2V DC; range 600 to 800V DC; CAN bus/RS485
7.68kWh battery module134H x 664D x 452W mm; 72kg; IP20; nominal voltage 76.8V DC; range 68 to 87V DC; LiFePO4; 100Ah; 80% depth of discharge; operating temperature 0°C to 55°C

The module warranty is stated as 70% remaining capacity after the first of 10 years or 10MWh per kWh throughput1. GivEnergy says the battery chemistry contains no cobalt, is non-flammable and that the battery is 99% recyclable1. Charge and discharge rate and capacity are reduced at lower and higher temperatures, according to the datasheet1.

Why it matters for households

The datasheet places the SME Battery Cabinet in domestic settings as well as commercial and industrial ones, so it sits alongside GivEnergy's home batteries rather than replacing them. Its scale is the point of difference: 64kWh in one cabinet is roughly several times the capacity of a typical single all-in-one home battery system, and the 256kWh four-unit figure is well beyond ordinary household demand. For a large property with high consumption, or a home with outbuildings, workshops or business use on the same supply, a cabinet of this size changes what can be stored and drawn from on-site generation. The built-in UPS for control systems and the emergency stop are features of a plant-room installation rather than a wall-mounted unit, and the 200kg empty weight and 2050mm height indicate the physical space and footing required. The battery management system described is a multi point monitoring BMS with CAN bus or RS485 communication, the same class of monitoring used across home storage.

What happens next

No installation dates, pricing, availability or certification details for the SME Battery Cabinet are given in the datasheet1. No UK household eligibility scheme or grant relating to the product has been reported.
