tado° launched a heating optimisation function on 29 January 2025 that allows customers to set the heating curve of their heat pump through the tado° app and Heat Pump Optimizer X1. The Munich-based maker of smart heating controls said the feature lets a heat pump "heat more efficiently and save on energy"1.
The function offers five heating curve settings in the app: Comfort, Standard, Moderate, Eco and Eco Plus. It sits under 'Settings' then 'Heat pump'1. tado° said that in some installations the initial heating curve is set by the installer, who may be estimating the thermal conditions of the building, and that this means it may be set too high and use more energy than necessary. Setting the curve in the app lets the customer fine tune how fast the heat pump operates1.

Heat Pump Optimizer X is required for the function1. It was launched in the UK with the rest of the tado° X range in November, and works with the main heat pump controller to set smart scheduling for heating and hot water and to adjust temperatures manually in the app1. tado° states it is compatible with Atlantic, Vaillant, Saunier Duval, Fujitsu, Daikin and Panasonic, with development for other brands continuing, and that it can act as a Thread border router for other tado° X products and third-party Matter devices1. Adding Wireless or Wired Smart Radiator Thermostat X allows per-room control in homes with heat pumps, which tado° describes as unique to it1. The company says the Optimizer X applies to space heating and domestic hot water heating, and that with its Balance for Heat Pumps loadshifting service and dynamic energy tariffs it can shift heat pump operation to periods when electricity prices are lower each day1.

Why it matters for households

What happens next
tado° has not reported a date for extending Heat Pump Optimizer X compatibility beyond the six manufacturers named, saying only that development for other brands is continuing1. No pricing for the new function has been reported.
