Andersen A3 charge point launched

Andersen EV launched its A3 home charge point in May 2024, a compact unit with a hidden cable that has since collected design and product awards and a colour collaboration with paint brand COAT.

Andersen EV launched the A3 home charge point in May 2024, at an event at the London Design Museum in Kensington1. The unit is described by the maker as the only domestic EV charge point with a completely hidden cable when not in use, and it offers over 200 colour and finish combinations2.

The A3 picked up its first award one month after launch, winning Platinum at the 2024 London Design Awards1. It was also ranked the best charger for quality in the What Car? 2024 home charger review2, and in November 2024 was named Best New Product (Domestic) at the fifth annual Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards, where Andersen also took Chargepoint Manufacturer of the Year (Domestic)3. Andersen says the A3 was one of 13 awards it secured in 2024, making it the UK's most awarded home EV charge point brand of that year1.

In October 2024 Andersen announced a partnership with eco paint brand COAT, adding six colours to the A3 range for an additional £250, applied to both the front and side panels2. The shades are Well grounded, Pan, Mezcal, Nomad, Ciao, Sofia and Trinket2. Andersen says the finishes are made to order using UK-sourced ingredients, and that the collaboration takes its portfolio of colour combinations to over 2502.

"Andersen and COAT share the same values and ethos, placing design at the forefront and using only high quality, sustainable materials."
David Martell, CEO of Andersen EV2

Andersen reports that 2024 was its best performing year on record, with a 35% increase in direct to customer sales compared with 20231. It says customers completed their two-millionth charging session since the company was acquired in 2022, and that the A3 brought a significant boost in sales3. The maker states that all its charge points are hand-made in the UK2, and that its in-house installation service holds Which? Trusted Trader status, which it says makes it one of only two EV charge point brands to have earned that accolade1.

Why it matters for households

A charge point is a fixed piece of equipment on a home, so its design, finish and warranty terms matter as much as its charging rate to some buyers. Andersen's stated 7-year warranty applies to the COAT collection as it does to existing fascias2, and the maker says it introduced that warranty during 20243. Buyers weighing a unit against the outside of a house, or against a garage wall, have a wider set of finish options than at launch, at a stated premium of £250 for the COAT shades2.

On running costs, Andersen says its products integrated with OVO's Charge Anytime add-on, which it says allows its customers to access savings of over £400 a year1. That figure is the maker's own and is not broken down in the published material. The A3's hidden cable design is presented as a tidiness feature rather than a change to how a home draws power2.

What happens next

Andersen said it was looking to 2025 with "a number of significant projects" that it said would expand the business and its offerings, without naming them1. No further product, price or specification details have been reported.
