Rinnai UK announced on 17 May 2023 that it is offering a free customer service which designs a heating and hot water system to suit a property's individual requirements1. The manufacturer said the service is intended to reduce purchase and running costs and carbon emissions by matching system design to the site or application1.

The company said the service forms an integral part of its H3 range of products, and that it provides detail intended to reduce related costs and to inform decisions on system design and installation1. It can be reached by email at engineer@rinnai-uk.com or by telephone on 0300 373 06601.

Rinnai set out how it expects the advice to differ by location. For off-grid rural sites with high heating and hot water demand, such as hotels, residential care homes and health centres, it said hybrid heat pump or solar thermal with BioLPG options could be considered the better solution1. For inner-city occupants, it said hybrid designs, including hydrogen-ready units for gas blends of up to 20%, along with products and systems of technical and practical feasibility, could be advised1. The company also gave the example of an urban retirement community of three Edwardian houses with a mixture of heating and hot water applications, for which it said it can design and install one whole system intended to guarantee maximum output and minimise fuel and operational costs, while considering feasibility from the perspective of the building and budget1.

"Rinnai is now offering a NEW and FREE customer service that designs the ideal heating and hot water system suited specifically to the customer's property requirements."

Operations director Mr Goggin said the company had positioned itself as offering the highest quality product and best available value with service excellence, and that it was using its design engineering competencies to suit all possible future needs and fuels1. Rinnai said it offers heat pump, BioLPG, solar and hydrogen options, which it states can fulfil all domestic and commercial energy demands1.

Why it matters for households

System design sits underneath the running costs and carbon performance of any home's heating, and the choices involved, such as a hybrid arrangement, a heat pump, solar thermal or a hydrogen-ready appliance, depend on the property, its fuel supply and its demand profile. A design service of this kind is a route by which a householder or their adviser can obtain a specification before work is priced or commissioned, rather than after. The detail of what any individual household would be offered, and whether the advice is free at the point of use in every case, is as the company states it1. No independent assessment of the service, and no figures for the savings it claims, have been reported1.

What happens next

No closing date, eligibility limits or waiting times for the service have been reported1. Enquiries are directed to engineer@rinnai-uk.com or 0300 373 06601. Further information on how system design, balancing and water treatment affect a home's performance is set out in the site's guide to heating system design and balancing, with the wider context covered in home heating and energy independence and in the guide to boilers and home heating.
