Andersen, a UK maker of home EV charge points, has introduced a seven-year warranty as standard on all new home charger installations. The company said the cover applies to all charge points and ancillary items supplied by Andersen from 14 May 20241.

The warranty sits alongside the company's A3 and A2 charge points. Andersen said each unit is hand-built to order and undergoes 50 separate quality checks before dispatch1. The A3 offers charging speeds up to 7kW and comes with a choice of over 240 colour options1. The company said the A3 and A2 are the only home chargers to feature a cable and plug that are hidden away when not in use1.

Customers who have their charge point installed by a third party also benefit from the warranty, Andersen said1. Its own installation service recently attained Which? Trusted Trader status1. The company said it is the highest-rated UK home charging company on Trustpilot, with a rating of 4.9 stars out of five1.

"Andersen customers expect the very best, so we introduced the very best warranty on the market. Our 7-year package is another way to reinforce customer confidence in making the switch to the EV."
David Martell, CEO of Andersen1

In June, the Andersen A3 won a Platinum award in the 2024 London Design Awards 'Product Design' category1. The company also said customers are allocated a dedicated Personal Concierge Assistant to guide them through living with an EV1.

The announcement does not state what the warranty covers in terms of parts, labour or call-out charges, nor whether it is transferable if a home changes hands. Those details have not been reported1. The warranty applies to units supplied from 14 May 2024, so charge points installed before that date are not covered by the new terms1.

Why it matters for households

A charge point is a fixed piece of electrical equipment on a home's supply, and faults can mean a loss of home charging until they are put right. The length of cover, and who is responsible for repairs, affects the cost of running an EV from a driveway rather than relying on public charging. Cover that extends to third-party installations matters because many households buy a unit and arrange their own electrician rather than using the maker's fitting service. What the warranty does not say is how a claim is made, what response times apply, or whether parts and labour are both included; none of that has been reported1.

The warranty also sits alongside the Smart Charge Points Regulations, which set requirements for charge points sold in the UK, and the choice between a unit bought with installation and one bought separately. Households weighing a charger against charging from solar will find the warranty terms are one part of the decision, alongside the A3's specifications and finishes. More general guidance sits in the EV charging hub, including charge point warranties and aftercare.

What happens next

The warranty applies to charge points and ancillary items supplied from 14 May 20241. No end date for the offer, and no further terms, have been reported1.
