Hypervolt has begun releasing version 5.1 of its charger app, an update that follows the version 5 release in November 2023 and adds direct report downloads and in-app troubleshooting.

Hypervolt has started releasing version 5.1 of its mobile app, the company said on 16 January 2024, describing it as the first set of improvements planned for the year and as building on the version 5 app released in November 20231.

The update adds a direct PDF download of the energy consumption report from the mobile app. Hypervolt said the ability to generate that report and receive it by email had been launched the previous summer, and that feedback had asked for a more direct way to get the data1. A second addition is a section in Charger Settings that runs tests to check whether communication is possible between the mobile device and the charger, and tells the user what to do if part of that link is not working1.

"We have started the release of our new 5.1 app this week, with the first set of many improvements planned for this year."

The app is available from the Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for Apple devices1. Hypervolt is listed among the charger manufacturers covered on this site.

Why it matters for households

A charger app is the main interface between a household and the equipment that draws power for a car, so changes to it affect how easily a home can see and control that consumption. The direct PDF download of the consumption report puts the household's own energy data into a file that can be saved or shared without waiting for an email1. The troubleshooting section is intended to identify where a connection between phone and charger has failed, which is the kind of fault that otherwise leaves a charger unresponsive to commands from the app1.

Neither change alters how much electricity a charger uses. What they affect is visibility of consumption and the ability to keep the device reachable from the app, both of which bear on how far a household can manage charging around its own supply, solar or battery setup.

What happens next

Hypervolt said it is in the final stages of revamping how schedules are defined and applied to the local charger, to allow automation with solar panel and battery installations through multi-mode scheduling. A closed beta is running with customers using Home 3.0 and Home 3 Pro devices, and the company expects to make the feature available for all Home 3.0 and Home 3 Pro devices within Q1 2024, with a plan to expand it to Home 2.0 devices later in the year1.

The company also said it is improving its integration with OVO Energy to support that supplier's Charge Anytime tariff, and is working to integrate with other popular EV tariff providers later in the year1. No dates beyond those have been reported.
