Rayleigh Instruments Limited issued warranty conditions dated 29 February 2024 covering six RI-ENERGYFLOW power inverters: the RI-ENERGYFLOW-MINI and the RI-ENERGYFLOW-3P-SERIES-15, 25, 50, 80 and 1501. The document describes the cover as a voluntary product warranty for end users of products supplied by the company1.
The core term is set out in the general conditions:
"We warrant that we will repair or replace (at our option) a Product or any part thereof, if such Product is faulty or defective in manufacture or materials for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase."
The warranty applies only to new products, and only where installation was carried out by a properly certified MCS installer or one authorised by Rayleigh Instruments1. It is non-transferable except where the products are installed in a building, in which case it transfers to a subsequent purchaser of that building or of the products, so long as the products remain installed1. It applies only to products bought by an end user directly from Rayleigh or from a reseller that bought them directly from Rayleigh1.
Several conditions attach to a claim. The product must keep its original serial number and rating labels intact and readable, a commissioning report must have been completed by the installer, and proof of correct commissioning, such as a certificate of compliance, may be required1. Claims for failures due to incorrect installation or commissioning are excluded1. Where a product or part is replaced or repaired, the balance of the original warranty period applies, and a replacement does not come with a new certificate1. If an identical product is unavailable, Rayleigh says it will supply another type of product of at least the same value and standard, which may differ in size, shape, colour or capacity, and costs relating to incompatibility with other installed components are not covered1.
Exclusions include accidental damage, theft or vandalism, use outside specified or normal operating ranges, force majeure such as violent or stormy weather and lightning, overvoltage and fire, cosmetic damage with no effect on function, water entry, contamination by dirt, smoke, salt or chemicals, and damage from unauthorised repairs or non-approved spare parts1. Damage from continued use after a defect is known, or would have been known with regular servicing, is not covered, and Rayleigh must be informed within one month of product failure1. Claims must in any event be submitted within one month of knowledge of the matter giving rise to the claim, and no consideration is given to later claims1.
On costs, the document states that for valid claims the end user is not charged for reasonable costs of making the claim, including processing, replacement parts or freight, but that the warranty does not include third party costs for access or labour, and compensation for direct or indirect damage arising from a defective inverter is not covered1. For invalid claims, Rayleigh is not liable for the end user's costs, including transport or return freight1. Faulty units must be returned within 10 working days of receipt of the replacement, and a qualified installer must be available for the exchange and re-commissioning1. Where a system has no internet connection, each claim obliges the installer or end user to organise qualified personnel for an on-site inspection and data collection under Rayleigh's instruction1. Claims are made by email to warranty@rayleigh.com1.
Why it matters for households
An inverter sits between a home's solar array, battery and grid connection, so its failure can stop generation and, on some systems, leave the property without the backup supply the equipment was bought to provide. A stated 10 year term gives a household a documented position on repair or replacement, but the conditions shape what that is worth in practice. Cover depends on who installed the equipment, on the paperwork from commissioning being kept, and on the serial label staying legible. The exclusion for labour and access costs means a replacement unit may still leave the household paying for the work to swap it, and the one month notification deadline places a premium on noticing and reporting a fault quickly. The transferability clause matters at the point of sale: because the warranty passes with the building while the products stay installed, it can be treated as a feature of the property rather than of the original buyer. Households weighing manufacturer warranties on home energy equipment against workmanship warranties, service plans and aftercare are looking at two separate documents, and this one covers the hardware only.
What happens next
The document is issued as ISSUE 2024021 and carries no stated expiry1. No information on pricing, availability or the wider solar PV market position of these models is included in the warranty document, and no further announcements from Rayleigh Instruments on the RI-ENERGYFLOW range have been reported.
