The Energy Ombudsman has recorded the trading period of the energy broker Light Energy Partners Ltd as ending on 1 May 2026, with the company's membership status shown as Inactive1. The same leaving date applies to a second broker, SmartSwitch Energy, which trades under the company name Kingsman Investments Ltd and is also shown as Inactive2.

Light Energy Partners Ltd held membership number C35LIGH04 and unique company number 14323763, with its start and leaving dates given as 2023-12-08 to 2026-05-011. SmartSwitch Energy held membership number C35KING04 and unique company number 16069693, with its start and leaving dates given as 2025-02-13 to 2026-05-012. Both entries describe the businesses as energy brokers rather than energy suppliers.

The Ombudsman states on both pages that it cannot take on disputes about these businesses.

"This Energy Broker isn't signed up to our scheme, so unfortunately we can't review your dispute."

The same wording appears on the SmartSwitch Energy page2. Both pages add that where a broker is currently trading, consumers can contact it directly to confirm its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider1. Neither page states whether either company has ceased trading, and no reason is given for the end of either membership period.

Why it matters for households

Brokers sit between a household and an energy supplier, often signing people up to tariffs or contracts sold under another company's name. Where a broker is not signed up to the Ombudsman scheme, the free dispute service that covers suppliers does not extend to it, so a complaint about how a contract was sold or arranged cannot be reviewed through that route1. The Ombudsman's own guidance points households towards the broker's ADR provider instead, where the broker is still trading1.

For a household's energy independence, the practical effect is on how easily a disputed contract can be challenged. A tariff arranged through a broker still governs the gas and electricity supplied to the home, and the supplier named on the bill remains the party the Ombudsman can consider. What has not been reported is whether either broker has stopped trading, whether any household contracts are affected, or what happens to complaints already in progress.

What happens next

No next steps are set out on either page beyond the leaving dates of 1 May 20261. The Ombudsman's pages do not state whether either company will reappear on its register, and no announcement from either business has been reported.
