The Heat Pump Association (HPA) launched a series of five articles on 2 July 2024 aimed at consumers considering a heat pump. The association said the articles "provide consumers with a comprehensive guide to navigating the move to installing a heat pump"1.
The articles cover considerations, advice and real-life experiences at every stage of a heat pump journey, according to the HPA. The five titles are:

Thinking of Installing a Heat Pump? Here's What You Need to Know.
What to Expect When Living with a Heat Pump
How to Get Your Home Ready for a Heat Pump
7 Facts About the Benefits of Heat Pumps
Life with a Heat Pump - Owner Stories
The HPA describes itself as the UK's dedicated voice for the heat pump sector. It says it represents over 95 member organisations working in the heat pump sector, with members accounting for around 85% of the volume of heat pumps sold in the UK market1. Its membership includes manufacturers of heat pumps, components and associated equipment, as well as energy companies, certification bodies, installers and training providers1.
Angie Moors-Menkens, chair of the HPA Marketing Working Group, said:
"As advocates for the accelerated deployment of heat pumps, the Heat Pump Association is proud to unveil these articles, which are designed to educate and empower consumers to make informed decisions on their journey to decarbonising their home heating."
Katy King, deputy director of sustainable future at Nesta, said the UK government aims to have 600,000 heat pumps installed each year by 2028 to decarbonise home heating and meet net zero targets. She said there are "still major knowledge gaps and misconceptions when it comes to installing and living with a heat pump", and that the HPA's articles could help homeowners "make their first step to transitioning to a heat pump"1.
The HPA said the articles offer guidance on considerations including cost, efficiency and environmental impact. It has not reported the specific figures or claims contained within the individual articles1.
Why it matters for households
A heat pump replaces a gas boiler or other fossil-fuel heating with a system that runs on electricity, so the decision affects both how a home is heated and what it costs to run. The HPA's stated purpose for the articles is to close gaps in consumer knowledge at the point where households begin weighing up an installation1. For a household, the practical questions are typically whether the property is suitable, what the upfront and running costs are, and what changes to insulation, radiators or hot water arrangements may be needed. The HPA says its articles address home readiness and day-to-day living, alongside owner accounts1. Further background on how the technology works and what installation involves is set out in the site's Heat Pumps: The Full UK Guide.
What happens next
The HPA has not announced any further dates or stages for the articles. It directs readers to its consumer pages at hpauk.org.uk/consumers/1. The government target of 600,000 installations a year by 2028, cited by Nesta, remains the stated policy aim1.
