Ideal Heating has confirmed that it will begin rolling out a product safety upgrade to affected boilers from the end of February 2024, following a customer notice first issued on 1 February1. The company said customers can continue to use their boilers in the meantime, but that it is advising them to repressurise to 1.5 bar1.
The upgrade applies to boilers manufactured between August 2022 and 7 January 2024 across ten ranges: Logic Combi2, Logic System2, Logic + Combi2, Logic + System2, Logic MAX Combi2, Logic MAX System2, iMini2, Independent Combi2, Keston Combi2 and Keston System21. Ideal Heating said products in current production are not affected1. The fault affects approximately 1 in 10,000 of the affected range, where an excessive volume of air trapped inside the boiler in a fault condition could cause it to overheat and fail1.
"we will apply a safety upgrade to boilers manufactured between August 2022 and 7th January 2024"
The work involves an additional component fitted by an engineer, described by the company as an additional safety device above and beyond the safety measures already within the boiler, which it says will not affect performance or efficiency1. The visit is expected to take 30 to 60 minutes1. Ideal Heating said it is directly contacting everyone who has registered the warranty of an affected boiler, and asks them to register their details at www.idealsupport.co.uk or call 0808 175 9173 to arrange an engineer visit1. Customers can also check whether their boiler is affected through the same webpage or freephone number1.
The company said it is aware of content circulating on social media platforms regarding an incident, which it says remains under ongoing investigation1. It said its advice that customers can continue to use their boiler has not changed1. Where a pressure gauge already reads 1.5 bar or above, the company says the system is at the correct pressure and does not need repressurising, though bleeding radiators may cause the pressure to drop, in which case it advises repressurising to 1.5 bar1. Customers who cannot repressurise their boiler are asked to contact the company by email or on the freephone number1.

Why it matters for households
A boiler that overheats and fails in a fault condition is a safety matter as well as a reliability one, and the affected ranges cover a large share of Ideal Heating's current combi and system line-up, including the Keston branded models. For a household, the practical effect is a scheduled engineer visit and a physical change to the appliance, rather than a replacement. The company states the added device does not alter performance or efficiency, so running costs and heat output are not expected to change1. Until the upgrade is fitted, the boiler remains in use, with pressure maintained at the level the maker specifies. Boiler pressure is one of the few boiler conditions a householder can check and adjust directly, and the maker's guidance ties it to the fault condition described. General guidance on combustion risks and detection is set out in our pages on carbon monoxide and home heating safety, and the affected models sit within the Ideal boilers range.
What happens next
The rollout of the safety upgrade begins from the end of February 20241. Ideal Heating has also published an installer update carrying the date 13/03/20241. No completion date for the programme, and no total number of affected boilers, has been reported1.
